Playful-Political Resistance in Madrid in the '90s presents a series of artistic collectives and initiatives that tested modes of intervention in the Madrid context of the late twentieth century.

The exhibition explores the articulations between play, subversion and public space in a decade marked by the cultural processes of institutionalisation and spectacularisation that marked the agenda of Madrid's counterculture. Pubs, squares, streets and squatted spaces became the epicentre of effervescent countercultural activity against the processes of urban gentrification (La Fiambrera Obrera), the dynamics of the institutionalisation of culture (Estrujenbank, Preiswert), the emergence of neoliberal policies (SCCPP, Industrias Mikuerpo), or the normative constructions of gender (LSD, Radical Gay).

The exhibition presents forms of artistic activism that embraced the seizure of public space and reclaimed humour, pleasure, friendship and the irony of bodies as forms of political action.

This project was developed in the context of the MUHACCV, with the support of the Documentation Centre of the MNCARS, the UAM and the UCM.
